What starts as interesting becomes exciting pretty quickly and you find yourself desperately eager to read more. The general premise from the blurb is intriguing if a little vague, but it was interesting enough to have my interest piqued. They were simply going at the speed they needed to be going. His pacing is excellent and, I’m happy to be proved wrong about the parts I thought were slow. He does an expert job with the antagonists as well. Koontz creates characters that are both incredibly lovable and I found myself throughout pulling for them in ways I didn’t ordinarily pull for characters. This really is one of the better things I have listened to in the past couple of years and, considering it’s from a genre I don’t ordinarily pick up, that’s saying something.

Whatever unknown factor caused me to choose this, I hope it makes itself known again in the future as it landed on a real winner! So the whole ‘must read it because I love this author’ thing didn’t apply either. I don’t know why this one jumped out at me (the cover is hardly inspiring) and despite being quite a well-known author, I had never read anything by him.
